It has never been easy growing up being intersex.
From the discrimination and bullying in school, to the hurtful words from relatives and all sorts of name-calling from society.
One day, as I was sitting in the morning enjoying the view of the sun, I looked up and saw a group of birds flying and they were making a shape like a circle. My mind began to wonder about how these birds survive—they are not employed by any company neither do they have credit cards—yet they feed and are able to fly and play around in the air freely without worrying about what those who are below are going to say or try to do.
That is the moment I was inspired that worrying will not solve any of my troubles. Rather, I need to have a mentality like that of a bird, enjoying every moment as it comes and be happy each day despite what anyone was going to say about me. I immediately stood up and spread my hands like the wings of a bird. I told myself that I refuse to be looked down upon and I will continue to rise despite what they say or try to do.
Since then, my self-esteem has grown and if I ever feel down, I look for a group of birds to feel motivated. I look forward to remaining in such high spirits and I remain hopeful that one day I will motivate others through this encounter I had with birds. I also look forward to be able to buy a house of my own someday and keep a few birds as pets so that I can wake up each morning and be motivated.
